Why Disneyland…and a GIVEAWAY!!!

I am asked one question more times than I can even remember. No, it isn’t “so are you going to have another kid?” I can remember most of the people who ask me that one. (FYI the answer to that is NO!) The question I am asked more than any other is “why Disneyland?” What is it about Disneyland that keeps me going back? Well here it is.

Peter Pan at Disneyland in 1980's

I grew up at Disneyland. I can’t even tell you when my first visit to Disneyland was. It definitely was before the picture of Mr. Pan and I here. My parents started taking me there when I was just a baby. From childhood to adulthood, I have grown up at Disneyland.

I waved at Mickey and Minnie in the parades. My mom made sure I always had my ice cream in the Carnation Plaza Gardens. My dad took me on my first trip down Splash Mountain. I had a birthday party at Disneyland. I sat at a table in the Court of Angels and wrote in my diary. I took pictures on the Mark Twain to send to a boy that I liked that had moved away. I went to dance competitions every year in the ballroom at the Disneyland Hotel. I gave a fake name to a cute boy I met in Frontierland because I was afraid to give him the real one. A young couple taught my friends and I how to swing dance at the Carnation Plaza Gardens pavilion. My first boyfriend bought me a light up rose on Main Street USA. I danced with my high school band down the parade route every year…and that parade route is longer than you realize!

Just like people remember certain moments in their life, I remember moments in mine. It just so happens that so many of those moments were at Disneyland. The thing is, now I have memories of my children there as well.

Family at Disneyland

Like me, my daughter waved like a maniac at Mickey and Minnie in the Christmas Fantasy parade. We had to hold my oldest by the overalls to keep her from running to Minnie when it wasn’t yet her turn to give her a hug. Like his big sisters before him, my baby boy dances in Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. However, the thunder in that attraction scared the bejeezus out of  my  middle daughter, so we always sat by the exit. My youngest daughter tried to stand on her tippie toes so she could get on Star Tours with the rest of us. My dad carried my daughter on his shoulders through Cars Land. My oldest threw up in the Nemo Submarines. My daughter spent an hour listening to the phone calls at the Market House. My baby boy flirted with Anna then snubbed Elsa…on the next visit, he changed his mind and did the opposite.

Those are just my memories. I can’t wait to hear what they remember from their trips when they grow up.

So why do I keep returning to Disneyland? To continue making memories at “the happiest place on Earth.” To remember past visits as I turn every corner and ride each attraction. Visiting Disneyland is a truly magical and unique place. Where else can I be reminded of so many times in my childhood and in my childrens’?  I can only imagine how my parents feel going there now that they have memories of 3 different generations at Disneyland. (They even spent their honeymoon there!)

Why I go to Disneyland is important to me, but how about you? Why do you go? Or why do you want to go?

I am excited to announce that our friends over at Get Away Today are giving one of you a chance to win a 2 night hotel stay and 2 adult Disneyland 1 Day/1 Park tickets so you can enjoy Disneyland and make some magical memories of your own.

About The Author

My name is Michaelyn Pouncey and I am a mom to three beautiful girls. I grew up in Southern California and was lucky enough to have a Disneyland annual pass up until recently. Disneyland was a huge part of my childhood and I love that it is a part of my children’s as well. I started this blog first and foremost out of my love for everything Disney. I also wanted to help other people who may want more information on the parks or who just want to look at some pretty pictures of all things Disney has to offer!
