Christmas 2013 will be remembered as the day that all food became pointless to me, unless it was from the Napa Rose restaurant in the Grand Californian Hotel at the Disneyland Resort. I kid you not, food that used to be delicious to me now has me saying “why did I ever think that THIS was good food?” The Napa Rose and Chef Andrew Sutton (and Chef Gloria Tae who was actually there that night,) have turned my husband and I into food snobs. It has been weeks since we have eaten there and we are still talking about the amazing meal we had and how I think I now need to go to cooking school so I can attempt to cook food half as delicious. If it wasn’t already there, you all now need to put dining at the Napa Rose on your Disney bucket lists…..in permanent marker, not pencil….and make it close to the top!
Dining there on Christmas day meant that there was a prix fixe menu. The cost was hefty at $90 per person. It took a long deliberation to decide on paying that amount because we are not fancy folks who dine at nice restaurants….in fact, we rarely dine out at all. This however was our first date night in a long time and we decided to take full advantage. Not to mention that I also wanted to put all the make-up that I had managed to slap on in between bottle feedings and diaper changes to good use. Even though it was the Napa Rose and the reputation of this place preceded itself, I still had my doubts that it would be worth the price tag. I will tell you now, the 4 course menu was WORTH EVERY PENNY. Since I am not a food critic and can’t put into words how delicious it all was, I will basically let these pictures show you what you missed out on if you weren’t there. Mean, I know, but maybe next year you can tell grandma that she doesn’t need to make her usual holiday ham and take her to the Napa Rose!

Our server helped us (okay, mostly me) pick out our menu options for the evening. While everything we ordered was utter perfection, my favorites were the scallops, the soup, the short ribs and the hot chocolate. While I liked the short ribs better, my husband also would like me to note that the beef tenderloin was “the best I’ve ever had, hands down.” We can’t speak highly enough of the food and the service at the Napa Rose. If you, like me, have been putting off going to the Napa Rose because you think is too fancy for a commoner like yourself, snap out of it and go experience this incredible restaurant!
